FCAN, the Families’ and Children’s AIDS Network, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving HIV-affected families through direct service programs, education, and advocacy.
Our direct service programs include Family Options, a multidisciplinary program of legal, social work, and supportive services for HIV-affected children and families in the Chicago area, and Red Ribbon Trails, a series of semi-annual retreats for HIV-affected families and annual retreats for adolescents from across the state.
In addition to providing direct services, FCAN advocates for laws and policies that will address the unique needs of HIV-affected families. In order to improve current programs and policies, FCAN coordinates a statewide network of HIV service providers and families through Chicago Roundtable and Downstate Caucus meetings. FCAN has been instrumental in reforming Illinois laws and systems that impact legal options for Illinois families and support children who are at risk of – or have been – orphaned by HIV/AIDS.
At the heart of our agency, we believe that the input of family members affected by HIV is critical to developing successful programs and policies. FCAN invites consumers to become involved in our program and policy discussions.
